Bond Uni was able to boost the morale of club fans by finishing on top across all grades over the weekend, a far cry from the series of unsuccessful wins in previous weeks.
The home side brought a change in how business was getting done, not only did the Premier League side invite local clubs to provide ball runners and run food stalls but a change of attitude in players extended on field with the hungry teams ready to win.
Sunnybank was no match for the 1st-grade side as they stampeded their way to a 39 – 32 win in front of the home crowd and relieved coaching staff.
Sunnybank veteran turned Bond Uni rookie Ryan Menzies made the shift this year chasing more game time and says he had this game marked on the calendar since its announcement.
"I played at that club for four years so I still have mates and know the coaching staff well," he said.
"A lot of the players they brought in [at Sunnybank] were quality players and I learnt a lot from them," he said.
"I know how they play and their club culture."
The winger admitted ahead of the game that his team needed to put focus on holding the ball, particularly in the middle in order to get enough possession to make opportunities.
"We need to earn the right to play wide and not just swing the ball." the winger said.
"Enthusiasm is something we have been lacking in recent weeks but it was all we needed to be as good or better than Sunnybank on the day." Ryan said.
It was becoming a reoccurring theme in games of late but the home side made clear was not apart of the game plan going forward if the weekends performance was anything to go by.
While injuries have played a major role in the teams' slow start to the 2018 season, Saturday's matches left no serious injuries to be reported leaving fans hopeful that their side may still be contenders for a top-four spot.
Bond Uni will travel to take on Saints at their home ground on May 19th for round 8 of the Hospital Cup Challenge.
