Averaging only 17 years of age, our Colts 1 have had a steep learning curve this season but they have a terrific fighting spirit. Down 26-10 at one stage, they fought back with 2 late tries to go down 38-24. With 9 wins this season they’ve qualified for the semi-finals and will play Sunnybank on Saturday morning at Ballymore.
Bond dominated the early stages – with big Caleb Enoka powering over for the first try and Callum Elliott getting the second. Keahn Tipu angled a grubber towards the corner and “Choz” followed through to touch down. We led 10-7 but then the game changed as their two best players took control. We overthrew on our lineout and UQ’s flyhalf snapped up the ball and stepped through to score. He then scored again and gave the final pass for their fullback to score. 19-10 at halftime.
UQ’s fullback scored twice more in the second half before we realized that the way to beat them was to go through rather than around them. Vinnie “Dozer” Collins crashed over and Kyle Cullen showed sheer determination to barge through the middle of a ruck and score. The final score 38-24.
