Bond Reserves have no chance of making the finals but, if you look closely at their season, they could have been in the top 4. 6 times they’ve got a bonus point for losing by less than 7 points. If they had won those close ones, who knows what could have happened ? As it was, they scored 6 tries in beating Norths 33-12, earning another bonus point, this time for a win. The only blight on the match was a shocking injury to winger Harrison Jurgs, who was carried off after a stiff-arm tackle by Norths winger. The good news was that he was released from hospital on Saturday evening – Bond were awarded a penalty try and the offending winger was red-carded.
After an arm-wrestle in the first half it was 12-all but Bond dominated after the send-off and ran away with the game. Rian Olivier led from the front from flyhalf, scoring 2 tries. For the first he carried four defenders over the line and the second was even more spectacular. He fielded a kick inside his own half and ran 50m, scoring under the posts after a brilliant weaving run. Nixon Taramai was rewarded for a mighty defensive effort with another impressive try, racing 30m through a wall of defenders. Nathan Corbett and Jake Field were the other tryscorers but the highlight on the game came right on fulltime. Veteran lock Ruben Fuimaono kicked a conversion – perhaps the first of his illustrious career!
