For the fifth year Bond University was the venue for the Associated Private Schools finals. Traditional rivals, Somerset College and All Saints met for the title and it was a classic. With plenty of Bond Colts in action there was a good crowd on hand, despite the rainy weather.
Last year Somerset had a chance to win if they kicked a penalty after the siren but missed. This year was similar, but the roles were reversed. Harry Bull’s All Saints looked to have the match sown up when Max Campion (Austin’s younger brother) dived over under the posts, giving them a 19-10 lead.
But Somerset, on the back of a dominant scrum, (thanks to Grant Anderson’s coaching) scored a try to get within 2 points, down 19-17. The fulltime siren sounded but Somerset, with all the momentum, drove within Saints’ quarter and winger Taylor Davies touched down for the winning try.
Congratulations to Bond boys, Josh Vuta, Charles and Lewis Pye on the win. Hopefully we’ll see a lot more of the APS boys next season at The Canal.
