Sunnybank have produced some exciting backs in recent years, such as Junior Laloifi and the Reserves’ Jezzy Ioane, who scored a hat-trick against us. Well another talent is centre Quinton Mahina, young brother of Premier Grade veteran Chazz Mahina. He scored 3 tries before half-time!
So our boys were down 19-0 at the break. But we came back with an impressive try, as flanker Tyler Gillott gave Josh Walker some space on the wing. He made it look easy as he ran a lovely in-and-away to score in the right corner. Sunnybank extended their lead to 24-7 from a pick and drive try but the last score came from Bond and it was perhaps the best of the game.
Nathan McPherson, who had a fine game, ran wide down the right flank and linked with Walker, who passed back inside to him. Then Nathan gave the ball back outside and “KP” danced through and away from 4 defenders to score his second try. It’s a pity he doesn’t get more possession because he’s a brilliant ball-runner. Final score – Sunnybank 24 Bond 12.
