COLTS 1 WIN A TIGHT ONE

2nd May, 2017

As Sean Hedger said in his “Coaches Corner” column this week, many people don’t realize that out Colts 1 team contains over 50% 17 year olds playing in an Under 19 division.  To come back from a 71-0 thrashing the previous week by Sunnybank and win 33-30 was a credit to the boy’s attitude.  Well done!

We scored 5 tries to 4 in a real arm-wrestle.  The best of ours was a 50m effort from Ryan Briggs coming off the bench.  He burst through on halfway and outpaced several Easts backs in a terrific individual effort.  Other scorers were Max Booth, Austin Northey and a double by newcomer Reece Tapine while Ashley Marsh kicked 4 conversions.

The boys showed tremendous determination to come from behind after being down 25-12.  As the game went on we showed greater fitness, scoring 21 points in the last 25 minutes.

Once again Austin Northey was outstanding, along with Kyle Cullen, Taine Wildermoth, Angus Roberts and Ashley Marsh.  The win takes the team into the top four – a position they should consolidate over the next 2 weeks.
