When South showed up at Robina with only 11 men, it looked like a forfeit was on the cards. But finally they found a straggler to make up the required numbers and the game went ahead, albeit 15 minutes late. Predictably, it was little more than a training run for our boys, who are now a point ahead of Brothers at the top of the table.
Bond had scored 6 tries by halftime, 3 of them to mobile hooker Kyle Cullen. Souths scored a try from a pushover scrum but Bond added another 3 tries in the second half. It was nice to see another Nucifora playing for Bond – young John scoring a fine try, following in Harry’s footsteps. Michael Marshall was outstanding at flyhalf and the two “Argies”, Exe Olivieri and Nick Sanguinetti also shone.
The game against Brothers on Saturday will be a virtual Grand Final preview.
