A sweet day for our Premier Reserves – a bonus point victory which took them into 4th place. It was the tough hooker, Ben Hunt who scored the first try, a typical effort from close to the line. With clinical precision the forwards provided good ball and long, accurate passing saw James Uhatafe race over on the right flank. Was that “Bear” Holmes in between the centres, throwing a perfect pass – indeed it was.
Then the skipper, Cass Walding showed tremendous determination to force his way over under the posts. Justin Bernstein had converted all three tries and, against a team ahead of them on the table, Bond led 21-nil.
But Jeeps halfback dived over for a try in the corner and, after the break, the Gallopers were in again, their winger finishing off a nice passing move. Alarm bells were ringing when a penalty had Jeeps back in the game at 21-13. But Bond re-grouped and scored 2 more tries to close out the game. Zac Moimoi off a pick and drive and Luke Evans sprinting 50m to get the bonus point.
Jeeps got an intercept try but it was too little too late and our boys ran out winners by 33-20, moving into the top four.
