Sunnybank had won 8 games this season, twice as many as Bond Reserves. Although our team started with enthusiasm, they couldn’t maintain it. Hooker Ben Hunt, who’s got 12 tries this season, was over the line, but the referee curiously ruled a double movement. Bond persevered with a barrage of pick and drive attacks and another regular tryscorer, Robbie Moe was over in the corner.
Unfortunately Sunnybank came back straight away with a good backline try and converted to lead 7-5.
Justin Bernstein landed an angled penalty goal to edge Bond in front 8-7 but Sunnybank scored twice before halftime to lead 19-8. Their breakdown work was impressive and they forced a lot of turnovers.
In the second half Bond came back with a try by T.J.Siakasini, who barrelled through a couple of tackles to score a typical try. But the Dragons went over again in the closing stages to make the final score 29-13.
