Austin Campion cruised over for a simple try in the third minute to set the tone for the match, after some neat work inside by Michael Marshall and Harry Hill. Next came a penalty try, as Jeeps forwards tried in vain to stop a rolling maul. Then came a try to winger, Michael Marshall, given space by a clever pass from fullback Harry Hill.
Struan Robertson scored a terrific individual try last week against Sunnybank but, if anything, his effort against Jeeps was better. He sprinted 40 metres, chipped and regathered to score – and claim a bonus point. A loose pass by Jeeps came off their centre’s shoulder and bounced into the arms of Liam Longbottom, who raced away for try number 5.
Jeeps finally got on the board when their winger stepped inside two lazy defenders but it was 33-5 at halftime to Bond.
Robertson and Longbottom each scored their second tries after the break and another penalty try was awarded when Harry Hill was taken out illegally in the act of scoring. The final score was 50-5. Meanwhile Brothers beat Souths 53-0, so it should be a titanic battle between the ladder-leaders at Robina in a fortnight. Goal-kicking flyhalf Liam Longbottom deserves special mention, scoring 20 points for the second week in a row.
